Mattress cleaning after bedwetting - Dryly®

Cleaning mattress after bedwetting

Bedwetting is an annoying problem; approximately 15% of children between the ages of 6 and 18 suffer from it. If your child suffers from bedwetting, it is a good idea to always use a mattress protector under your child's mattress sheet. Cleaning a mattress at night is of course no fun, using a waterproof mattress protector prevents your mattress from getting dirty after an accident and you and your child can quickly get back to sleep.

An accident

So what do you do when you are woken up at night by your child because he/she has had an accident? The first thing you should do is comfort your child, of course. Being a child who wets the bed is annoying enough! In this article, we will give you some tips on how best to clean your child's mattress after bedwetting.

Tips: mattress cleaning

Remove all the sheets from the bed and first dab the stain with paper towels. Do not rub, but dab! Sprinkle baking soda on the stain. Let this soak in for 4 hours. The baking soda will soak up the rest of the urine. The next morning, you can vacuum the baking soda off the mattress with a vacuum cleaner. When cleaning the mattress after bedwetting, it is very important to let the mattress dry completely before putting new bedding on it.

Another way you can clean a mattress after bedwetting is with a soapy water with detergent. First, pat the mattress as dry as possible with paper towels. Make a lather of Biotex and dab the stain with this. Then further clean the mattress with water to which you add some vinegar and a few drops of TeaTree oil. With this you can wash the stain well. Again, it is important to let the mattress dry thoroughly.

Immediately clean your mattress after bedwetting

The most ideal thing is to clean the mattress right after bedwetting, but what do you do when you want to get an old stain out of a mattress? If your child suffers from bedwetting more often, chances are you may forget to clean the mattress once after bedwetting. What you can do to get a stain out after bedwetting is to make suds of water, mild detergent and a little ammonia. With a sponge dab the stain until it is completely gone.

Once the stain is gone, you can clean the stain on the mattress by dabbing with water with white vinegar and TeeTree oil in it. A few drops are enough! Dab the stain with this and let the mattress dry completely. I hope we've helped you get these pesky post-bedwetting stains out of your mattress! Tips against bedwetting

Cleaning the mattress after bedwetting is important, but of course it is best if your child gets rid of the bedwetting problem quickly. The bedwetting alarm method is the most effective method against bedwetting. Your child will learn to wake up at night from a full bladder.

Our Dryly bedwetting alarms work using the bedwetting method. When you go to sleep, you put on special sensor pants. The moment your child pees, an alarm goes off. The Dryly alarm is in the back of Wizzu the panda bear. Wizzu helps your child on his way to dry nights. When your child pees, an alarm also goes off in the Dryly app; so as a parent, you know exactly when your child wets the bed.

What you can do yourself:

  • Make the bed several times for a night with mattress pads; that way, you only have to take off the top layer at night.
  • Let your child hear the sound of the alarm before bedtime. Say that together with your child; "tonight k wake up from this sound" or "when I hear this sound tonight I wake up".
  • Stick closely to the bedtime ritual described in the Dryly app.
